A new twist in The Traitors game: A stage adaptation of the hit reality series is headed to the West End.
Studio Lambert and Neal Street Productions will be collaborating on the show, written by John Finnemore and directed by Robert Hastie, the deputy artistic director of the National Theatre. The project is currently in development and slated for a 2027 run.
The Traitors‘ stage show will be based on the hit BBC series hosted by the iconic Claudia Winkleman in Britain and Alan Cumming on the U.S. version.
It comes hot on the heels of the fourth civilian series — won for the first time by two traitors, Rachel and Stephen — which, again, utterly smashed ratings for the BBC’s reality content. The series finale on Friday night averaged 9.4 million viewers, with a peak of 9.6 million and an audience share of 54.9 percent. This is the biggest overnight audience across the market since the final episode of The Celebrity Traitors in November, conquered by Alan Carr.
Studio Lambert chief executive Stephen Lambert called the stage adaptation a “hugely exciting step for this much-loved brand.”
“Partnering with Neal Street Productions, a true theatrical powerhouse, allows us to reimagine the show as a bold and surprising theatrical performance,” he continued. “Faithful fans should expect an intense, joyful night out as we reveal a thrilling new hunting ground for our Traitors.”
Caro Newling, co-founder of Neal Street Productions, added: “In developing The Traitors for the stage, Neal Street and Studio Lambert have curated a team of brilliant faithful theatre-makers led by director Rob Hastie and writer John Finnemore to bring a bold, structural twist to the format that only the live medium can provide.”
The production is being developed by the All3Media-backed companies, with rights negotiated through All3Media International.
Further details, including performance dates and venues, will be announced in due course.
