Starz, National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) and NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA), have announced the fourth installment of the Starz #TakeTheLead Writers’ Intensive.
The program is designed to champion emerging television writers from underrepresented communities. Submissions will open on Aug. 26, with the deadline to submit set for Sept. 18. The intensive will equip participants with immersive industry insights, creative development tools and direct mentorship from leading showrunners, executives and writers. The program will have a strong focus on supporting authentic and inclusive storytelling, encouraging writers to refine their voices and strengthen their scripts to help shape a more representative future for television.
The finalists will be provided a Stage 32 Scholarship, with unlimited access to over 3,000 hours of training taught by Stage 32 educators to help them improve their careers. Stage 32 will support Season
“The Starz #TakeTheLead Writers’ Intensive was an incredible opportunity to gain a better understanding of our rapidly evolving industry,” says Justin Omori, a participant in Season Three of the program. “I loved the unique format of the intensive, which allowed me to work closely with both active writers and executive mentors while simultaneously creating a spec script for a current Starz series. This sparked invaluable conversations and deepened my understanding of the craft of television writing.”
Participants selected will receive hands-on mentorship from experienced industry professionals as they craft an episode treatment and pitch, where they will present their pitch to STARZ creative executives at the conclusion of the three-week program.
