Shaun White and Nina Dobrev are going their separate ways.
After five years together, and almost one year after the Olympian popped the question to the Vampire Diaries alum, the pair have broken up, according to People, citing a source.
“It was a mutual decision, and wasn’t an easy one,” the source told the outlet, “but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another.”
Back in October, the snowboarder asked Nina to marry him in a candlelight proposal. And while Shaun is no stranger to performing sweet tricks in the half-pipe, he opted to use a different kind of trick when surprising his longtime love. Indeed, as part of his gold medal-winning ruse, he sent her a fake invitation to a dinner hosted by Anna Wintour, only to arrive at to find Shaun down on one knee.
“He made the invite look so legitimate,” Nina admitted to Vogue. “I was in a panic that Anna’s waiting for me.”
The pair shared the romantic moment on Instagram with a series of candid photos and a close-up shot of her glittering ring. “She said yes,” Shaun, 38, captioned the October 30 post, and Nina, 36, wrote on her own post, “RIP Boyfriend, hello fiancé.”
