Netflix has released the first trailer for “The Woman In Cabin 10,” a psychological thriller starring Keira Knightley and directed by Simon Stone.
Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Ruth Ware, “The Woman In Cabin 10” follows a journalist named Lo (Knightley) who boards a yacht for a travel assignment and finds herself tangled in a web of conspiracies and mysteries. After she sees a passenger thrown overboard one night, her wealthy fellow travelers try telling her that it didn’t happen, so she takes investigative matters into her own hands.
The trailer suggests a gripping story about classism, gender and gaslighting. Ware states, “At its heart, the film is about a woman who experiences something wrong, reports it truthfully, and isn’t taken seriously because of who she is. Too many people know what that feels like and I think we want vindication for ourselves as much as Lo.”
Simon Stone added in a statement to Collider, “Lead female characters have had a bit of a bad rap. It’s always the woman whose sanity we’re doubting. I wanted Lo to feel more like the lead characters from ‘70s paranoid thrillers — Dustin Hoffman, Robert Redford, Gene Hackman in ‘The Conversation.’ You never question them. You just believe they’re right. That’s what I wanted for Keira.”
“The Woman In Cabin 10” also stars Guy Pearce, Hannah Waddingham, David Ajala, Art Malik, Kaya Scodelario, David Morrissey, Daniel Ings and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. The screenplay was written by Joe Shrapnelm, Anna Waterhouse and Simon Stone, and is based on an adaptation by Emma Frost. Debra Hayward and Ilda Diffley produced the film while Cindy Holland and Richard Hewitt served as executive producers.
The film will be available to stream on Netflix starting Oct. 10.
