ViscoTec has introduced ViscoTreat-I Slurry, a preparation and feeding system for battery electrode coating that combines material buffering, conditioning and pulsation-free delivery in a single mobile unit aimed at small-scale series production.
In lithium-ion battery manufacturing, electrode coating slurry (a mixture of powdered active material, conductive carbon black and binder) must be homogenized and fed to a coater without pressure variation. Pulsation in the feed causes coating irregularities that degrade cell electrochemical performance. ViscoTreat-I Slurry serves as an intermediate buffer between the mixing extruder and the coater; optional recirculation and inline material degassing are also available.

The integrated feed pump delivers slurry precisely and without pulsation. A 1K dispenser, the vipro-PUMP 500, mounts on the housing alongside the vipro-DRIVE controller. ViscoTec says the system accounts for rheological changes in the slurry across the full coating process.
The mechanical design focuses on operator access and cleanability. The container lowers for easier loading; all components disassemble using star knobs only. Materials are resistant to aggressive solvents. A sight glass monitors slurry level, an LED light ring improves visibility under poor lighting, and the unit mounts on wheels with a locking lift function for repositioning and securing within a facility.
