Perenco has boosted its oil production capacity in Chad to more than 18,000 barrels per day (bpd) following the completion of a major drilling campaign at the Badila and Mangara fields, the company announced this week. The increase surpasses Perenco’s original target of 16,000 bpd when the fields resumed operations three years ago.
The campaign at Badila included 12 new wells, adding a peak 7,000 bpd of production. Of these, eight were horizontal wells targeting the Upper Cretaceous reservoir, alongside three water disposal wells and one appraisal well, Perenco said. The project also included the installation of four gas turbines to expand on-site power generation and upgrades to processing facilities to handle higher output.
With drilling complete, the GWDC rig has moved to the Krim development in the Doba Basin—operated by Perenco subsidiary PetroChad Mangara (PCM)—where an eight-well campaign is planned next. PCM is also using associated gas from its operations to supply electricity to Moundou, Chad’s second-largest city, providing energy to roughly 100,000 people.
Beyond Chad, Perenco is advancing new developments across Central Africa. Earlier this year, the company began constructing Kombi 2, a new platform in the Republic of the Congo’s Kombi-Likalala-Libondo permit. Expected online in early 2026, Kombi 2 will recover roughly 7 million cubic feet of gas per day and unlock an additional 10 million barrels of reserves by optimizing existing wells. The project includes two gas turbines and a connection to a 33-kilovolt power hub.
Kombi 2 forms part of a broader $200 million investment, while the recent 20-year renewal of the Ikalou II and Likouala II permits supports a larger $900 million long-term program covering workovers, drilling, and new infrastructure. Perenco says these efforts underpin its commitment to helping Congo reach its goal of producing 500,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2030.
Perenco’s Congo-Brazzaville portfolio contributed 75,000 boe/d to the company’s output last year, supported by strong performance at the Emeraude and PNGF Sud fields and new permits including Ikalou, Mwafi, Awa, Foukanda, and Djambala.
