Pep Guardiola: Man City manager insists he has ‘one more year’ on deal

As things stand, there has been no confirmation from Guardiola or the club over his immediate future, but it is understood former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is among the leading candidates to replace him.

City’s preference is for Guardiola to stay for as long as possible, but sources have told BBC Sport there is tangible uncertainty over whether he will see out the final year of his contract.

Guardiola, who continues to publicly insist he loves working at the club, has lifted 19 trophies during his time at City, including six Premier League titles, the Champions League and two FA Cups.

His side remain in the hunt for a seventh top-flight title of his spell, but lie two points behind leaders Arsenal with two games remaining.

Asked if his reign is the definition of greatness, Guardiola replied by flexing his bicep and saying: “Yeah, of course, 19 titles in 10 years is not bad.

“They know they don’t need to wait until I’m leaving, they know I have been fun. So 19 titles – fight for 20 in 10 years – it’s not bad, honestly.”
