On Jan. 22, 2006, Kobe Bryant had one of the best games of his career in the NBA. The L.A. Lakers were hosting the Toronto Raptors at the Staples Center (now called Crypto.com Arena) in Los Angeles, California. This was the game Kobe Bryant, who’s the subject of a new movie in the works at Warner Bros., scored a career-high 81 points in one game.
And 20 years later, to celebrate the anniversary, Nike is releasing the Kobe 1 Protro “81 Points” sneakers on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT.
Priced at $210, the Nike Kobe 1 Protro “81 Points” sneakers have rubber soles, which adds to their cushioning, while they have a look that’s clean and retro with mid-2000s accents that dawns the team’s black, white, court purple and gold colorway. The sneakers are lightweight and made from a blend of real and synthetic leather paired with a fabric upper for durability.
In addition, the signature shoes feature Bryant’s “Shield” logo on each tongue, while the word “Uptempo” adorn the upper heels. The shoe silhouette is classic, as their sneaker insoles feature the cities — Houston, Denver, L.A., Atlanta, Philly, DC, Oakland and NYC — where Bryant went on scoring sprees during the 2005-06 season.
