‘Hamnet’ Reclaims No. 1 Spot at U.K., Ireland Box Office


Universal’s “Hamnet” reclaimed the No. 1 spot at the U.K. and Ireland box office, grossing £1.41 million ($1.92 million) and lifting its cumulative total to £14.84 million ($20.18 million), according to Comscore.

Close behind was was Lionsgate U.K.’s “The Housemaid” on $1.91 million for the frame, pushing its total to $38.7 million.

Debuting in No. 3, Black Bear’s “Shelter” delivered $1.3 million. Also new in No. 4, “Iron Lung” opened with $1.2 million.

Among the holdovers, Disney’s “Zootopia 2” held No. 5 with $1.1 million and a running total of £$44.3 million, while “Avatar: Fire And Ash” was No. 6 on $1.01 million for a cumulative $56.1 million.

Further down the chart, “Marty Supreme” (Entertainment Film Distributors) ranked No. 7 with $936,826 and a total of $20.1 million. Paramount’s “Primate” came in No. 8 on $896,588. Sony’s “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” took No. 9 with $832,917 and a cume of $9.4 million, while Disney’s “Is This Thing On?” rounded out the top 10 in No. 10 with $818,486.

The first wave of February releases is led by a mix of franchise fare, event cinema and prestige indie titles. Horror fans are catered to with “The Strangers – Chapter 3,” which arrives as the latest entry in the long-running home-invasion series, while Sam Raimi’s “Send Help” also opens midweek. Event cinema remains a strong draw, with CinemaLive pairing R.E.M.’s music with Buster Keaton’s silent classic in “R.E.M. X Buster Keaton’s ‘Sherlock Jr.’”

Friday brings one of the week’s biggest commercial plays in Universal’s “Stray Kids: The Dominate Experience,” a concert film headlined by the global K-pop group and rolling out across more than 100 locations. The day also sees the arrival of Bollywood film “Vadh 2” from Yash Raj Films, alongside the classic Hollywood thriller “The Stunt Man,” which Radiance Films is reintroducing.

Shakespeare gets a contemporary reworking with Universal’s “Hamlet,” starring Riz Ahmed, Morfydd Clark and Joe Alwyn, while Akinola Davies Jr.’s “My Father’s Shadow” from Mubi offers a festival-backed drama opening widely.

Jessie Buckley, Domhnall Gleeson and Rob Brydon headline Magic Light Pictures’ animated family title “The Scarecrows’ Wedding,” which lands in more than 300 locations, while Vue Lumière’s period romance “100 Nights of Hero,” starring Emma Corrin and Nicholas Galitzine, targets the mid-range arthouse crowd.

Kristen Stewart’s feature directorial debut “The Chronology of Water,” distributed by BFI, opens on a smaller footprint, as do titles including Park Circus release “Twinless,” led by Dylan O’Brien, and Max Keegan’s “The Shepherd and the Bear” from Conic.

Rounding out the slate are further niche and event releases, including Anime Ltd’s animated “Lupin the IIIrd the Movie: The Immortal Bloodline,” which opens over the weekend, and the Royal Opera House ballet presentation “Woolf Works – ROH, London 2026,” from Trafalgar Releasing.
