Exec Says She Was Wrongly Fired & Threatened by Star

A former executive at 50 Cent’s companies is suing him over accusations that he threatened and harassed her after she refused to take part in illegal behavior, including framing a man for serious crimes.

Attorneys for Monique Mayers announced Thursday (April 30) they had filed a lawsuit in Georgia federal court against the star rapper (Curtis Jackson), claiming he had “waged a years‑long campaign of retaliation, harassment, and intimidation” against their client.

Mayers, who served 12 years as a senior executive at 50’s G-Unit and other companies, claims she was fired in 2019 because she would not take part in illegal activity, including bankruptcy fraud and lying to the police to frame his former bodyguard for serious crimes.

“Jackson ran his workplace the same way he built his public persona: through fear, humiliation, loyalty tests, and punishment,” Mayers lawyers write in a copy of the complaint provided to Billboard by her lawyers. “Ms. Mayers would not lie to police. She would not frame another person. She would not risk federal charges or prison to protect Jackson’s secrets.”

After her termination, Mayers says the rapper “unleashed a years-long intimidation campaign,” including more than 80 harassing and threatening calls and messages: “The message was unmistakable: Protect Jackson’s secrets or .. suffer the consequences,” the complaint reads.

In a statement to Billboard, 50 Cent’s attorney, Reena Jain, said she and her client “categorically and strenuously deny the baseless allegations” raised in the lawsuit, which she called “nothing more than a stunt to garner media attention and damage Mr. Jackson’s reputation.”

“Ms. Mayers is a disgruntled former employee who was terminated for cause over five years ago,” Jain said. “This lawsuit is nothing more than a transparent attempt to use the guise of a legal proceeding to seek an unjustified payday well outside of the applicable statute of limitations.”

In the lawsuit, Mayers claims 50 Cent also later dragged her into federal and state investigations over alleged wrongdoing at his Sire Spirits liquor company, then had his lawyers threaten her during a live court deposition by referencing an unrelated murder.

“Jackson demanded illegal favors because he believed people around him existed to serve his needs, protect his image, and absorb his risks,” her lawyers write. “When Ms. Mayers rightfully refused, Jackson fired her. Then he used texts, calls, threats, and grotesquely outrageous deposition conduct to punish her, frighten her, and attempt to force her silence.”

In technical legal terms, Mayers’ lawsuit accuses the rapper of intentional infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy. It is seeking an unspecified amount of damages for “severe emotional distress,” as well as punitive damages to deter others from “weaponizing their resources to terrorize former employees who refuse to commit fraud.”

But in her response statement, 50 Cent’s lawyer pushed back on the facts alleged in the lawsuit. Jain said that when the alleged threats against Mayer came to light, the star’s lawyers not only encouraged her to go to law enforcement, but also reported them themselves to “ensure they were thoroughly investigated.”

“We look forward to vigorously defending against these false claims in a court of law and anticipate a swift dismissal of this frivolous lawsuit,” Jain said.
