Charged EVs | InfiMotion’s magnesium-aluminum alloy dual motor assembly claims 25% weight reduction over aluminum


InfiMotion is showcasing a lineup of electric drive products at the 5th International Forum on Automotive Power Systems in Songjiang, Shanghai, headlined by what the company claims is the world’s first mass-produced dual motor assembly using a magnesium-aluminum alloy housing.

The alloy housing cuts system mass by 25% compared to conventional aluminum alloy assemblies while maintaining structural hardness for production use, InfiMotion says. Thermal management uses the company’s proprietary 360° bidirectional full oil cooling system.

Three additional products are on the show floor. A magnetic field-adjustable motor reduces no-load drag losses to lower overall vehicle energy consumption—a technique that allows the motor’s magnetic flux to be varied based on operating conditions, reducing iron losses at light load or high speed. An ultra-high-speed motor is rated at 36,000 rpm, targeting high-performance EV applications. A 9-in-1 integrated e-drive controller consolidates power electronics and vehicle control functions into a single unit.
