Cannes ACID Title ‘Summer Drift’ Lands at MoreThan Films for Sales

MoreThan Films has boarded international sales on “Summer Drift” (“Virages”), the debut feature from Swiss co-directors Céline Carridroit and Aline Suter, ahead of its world premiere in the ACID sidebar at the Cannes Film Festival later this month.

The Switzerland-France co-production is set during a Geneva summer and follows Johanna, a woman employed on the production floor of a luxury watch factory who, rather than parting with her aging VW Beetle, decides to restore it – forcing her back into the world of mechanics that had once turned her away. The film, which weaves through questions of labor and gender identity, operates as a hybrid between documentary and fiction.

Cavale Films – the Geneva-based collective co-founded by the directors and producer Aurélien Marsais – produced the film alongside Cécile Lestrade. Carridroit and Suter also share screenplay credits.

“At MoreThan Films we are interested in films that push narrative boundaries and ‘Virages’ is a great example of how personal stories, such as Johanna’s, can translate to films that speak to a wider audience,” said Queralt Pons Serra, co-founder of MoreThan Films. “The directors worked together with the protagonist, with a lot of care and respect, to make sure that the film was true to her story, with a device that allowed Johanna to recreate parts of her life but also reinvent the way she was experiencing the world.”

“Céline and Aline create a lighthearted luminous film that deals with complicated topics through the humorous and careless savoir-vivre of its protagonist,” added Lidia Damatto, the company’s other co-founder. “We’re sure this ‘Summer Drift’ will be a hit with festivals in the next few months.”

ACID – France’s association of filmmakers dedicated to championing independent cinema’s path to theatrical release – selected nine titles for its 2026 Cannes program, six of them debut features. The section has historically served as a launchpad for emerging filmmakers, with past alumni including Justine Triet and Radu Jude.

MoreThan Films, co-founded by Pons Serra and Damatto, operates between Barcelona and São Paulo, with a slate spanning documentary, fiction and experimental work by both emerging and established directors.
