Fang Cheng Bao is best known for its high-end off-road SUVs, but now BYD’s sub-brand has its sights set on a new market after revealing its first electric sedan and striking Formula X sports car.

BYD expands into luxury off-roaders, EV supercars

BYD showcased a whole parade of new vehicles, ranging from flagship electric SUVs to supercars, at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show.

One of the more “electrifying” booths was Fang Cheng Bao, BYD’s self-described “personalization-focused” sub-brand.

Fang Cheng Bao is BYD’s fifth sub-brand, following Denza, Yangwang, the Dynasty, and Ocean series. Its lineup currently consists of four electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUVs: the Bao 5 and Bao 8 off-roaders, as well as the recently introduced Tai 3 and Tai 7, aimed more at families.

The brand is branching out from hardcore premium SUVs that can float on water and accelerate like sports cars to actual supercars and sedans.

At the show, we got a sneak peek at a few exciting new models to look forward to, including Fang Cheng Bao’s first sedans and a stunning two-seat supercar.

BYD’s sub-brand is “moving to its next phase with its first new-energy personalized sedans,” the Formula S series and Formula X, a “production sports car.”

The Formula S is a “multi-form personalized sedan for all scenarios,” BYD said, “creating a new category of personalized sedans.”

It will be available in three configurations: the “Formula S” three-box sedan, the “Formula S GT” shooting brake, and the larger “Formula SL” three-box sedan.

All three measure over 5 meters in length, 2 meters in width, and a wheelbase of 3 meters. The design, which BYD calls the “golden ratio body,” features a low-slung, “hunting leopard” stance inspired by a Cheetah.

Up front, the “Cheetah Eyes” headlights and “Infinity Ring” taillights give it a Lamborghini or McLaren-like supercar look. To reduce weight, the vehicle also features a full carbon fiber body. All three Formula S models are expected to launch in the third quarter of 2026.

BYD said the production “Formula X” sports car is “80% identical to the real car” and will sit atop the new Formula sedan lineup. It’s expected to launch next year.
