ABC News Readies David Muir Sunday Special on U.S. Attacks in Iran


ABC NewsDavid Muir will host an hour-long primetime special Sunday focused on global coverage of the aftermath of attacks by the U.S. and Israel on Iran — a programming strategy that shows the conflict remains top of mind for audiences and programmers.

Muir will anchor “Shockwaves: The Attack on Iran,” which will air Sunday, March at 9:01 p.m. eastern on ABC and also and streaming Disney+ and Hulu. The program will offer the special reports on what led up to the surprise, deadly attack; get behind President Trump’s decision to launch ‘Operation Epic Fury’; tand cultivate reaction from Capitol Hill. The show will also examine Iran’s retaliation and and what might happen next from a strategic viewpoint.

Among those who will report live for the special are Martha Raddatz from Washington; chief international correspondent Ian Pannell from Tel Aviv, chief international correspondent James Longman from Istanbul; foreign correspondent Marcus Moore from Doha; correspondent Matt Rivers from Amman; chief White House correspondent Mary Bruce, from Washington; chief Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl; chief justice correspondent Pierre Thomas; and senior political correspondent Rachel Scott.  

The primetime special is produced by ABC News. Muriel Pearson is executive producer with Chris Dinan and Jennifer Metz.

ABC News is among the national TV-news outlets rearranging normal weekend schedules to cover the attacks on Iran and the nation’s response. Fox News on Sunday continued to rely on some of its weekday anchors, including Harris Faulkner, to present ongoing coverage of the news. CBS News on Saturday presented a primetime special led by anchor Tony Dokoupil with “Face the Nation” moderator Margaret Brennan. NBC News presented an hour-long special at 8 p.m. anchored by Tom Llamas, who also anchored the Saturday broadcast of “NBC Nightly News.”

The news networks relied on their Sunday-morning programs to help viewers make sense of the surprise attack. CBS’ “Face The Nation,” ABC’s “This Week,” NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Fox News’ “Fox News Sunday” and CNN’s “State of the Union” all featured interviews with lawmakers and experts about the U.S. decision to attack and potential ramifications.
