Break out the White Castle because Kal Penn and John Cho are expected to return for another “Harold and Kumar” adventure.
A fourth movie is in the works at Lionsgate-owned Mandate Pictures with the original “Harold & Kumar” writers Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg set to direct a new installment in the buddy stoner comedy series. They will also write the screenplay with Josh Heald, according to the Hollywood Reporter which broke the news.
Cho and Penn are presumed to reprise their roles as Harold and Kumar but no deals have been finalized. It’s unclear if Neil Patrick Harris, who played a pivotal role in the films, will be back.
The original adventure, 2004’s “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle,” followed two pals whose pot-fueled munchies trip to the fast-food burger joint takes a zany turn. The comedy became a hit and spawned two sequels, 2008’s “Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay” and 2011’s “A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.”
Penn has long expressed a desire to return to the world of Harold and Kumar.
“We would love to do a fourth movie. John Cho and I text about it all the time,” Penn told Variety in 2020. “Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg — who created and wrote all three movies in the franchise — we all would love to do one. I think we all, thankfully, have the blessing of being really busy right now and want to find the right venue and the right timing.”
