“I’m starting to worry that two narcissistic megalomaniacs with a total inability to see value in other humans might have a hard time making friends,” Stephen Colbert noted
Late-night hosts commented on the growing feud between Donald Trump and Elon Musk over the president’s “big beautiful bill.” Since departing his role in the government, Musk has been waging a Twitter war against Trump’s budget.
“Trump and Elon’s relationship blew up faster than a SpaceX rocket,” Jimmy Fallon noted during his monologue on The Tonight Show. “You can tell Trump is really mad at Elon because earlier today he was seen driving a Prius. Trump said he hasn’t felt this betrayed since McDonald’s started putting apple slices in Happy Meals.”
He added, “It’s orange vs. white. It’s like watching a creamsicle attack itself.”
On Jimmy Kimmel Live, Jimmy Kimmel recounted how Musk referred to the bill as a “disgusting abomination” and suggested that we should “fire all politicians who betrayed the American people.”
“The real truth is that Musk is mad about the things that affect him, like cutting the electric vehicle tax credit, not using his company Starlink for air traffic control, and that they pulled his friend’s nomination for head of NASA,” Kimmel noted. “What Elon Musk cares about is Elon Musk.” He joked, “Now, between Elon and Melania, Trump now has two foreigners who won’t sleep with him.”
On The Late Show, Stephen Colbert quipped that the “thinkable” finally happening, with trouble brewing between the president and the “former first buddy.” “I’m starting to worry that two narcissistic megalomaniacs with a total inability to see value in other humans might have a hard time making friends,” the host said during his monologue.
The Daily Show host Michael Kosta commented that “Washington is a lot like high school and not just because all the politicians are trying to date high-schoolers.”
On Late Night, Seth Meyer joked that the rift between Trump and Musk was a “stunning turn of events.” “No one could have seen this coming,” he said. “I’m hearing gasps in our audience.” He noted, “Things have been bad for Elon, which is what happens to everyone who sells their soul to Trump.”
