The good news about public EV chargers keeps coming. Just a bit after reporting about 88 new fast chargers planned for Brooklyn, NY, here’s another recent and relevant development. In nearby Queens and a little further out in Long Island, there will be a total of 80 public fast charging ports installed.

Kempower and GET Charged Fast EV Charging are collaborating on the new charger installations, which will use Kempower Satellites chargers.

Kempower VP of Markets and Products Jed Routh and GET Charged Fast EV Charging Co-Managing Partner Marc Horowitz answered some questions about the new charging sites.

Will each charger have NACS and CCS1 connectors?

Yes. Each location will feature eight state-of-the-art dual Kempower Satellites with NACS/CCS1 connectors to ensure a seamless and reliable charging experience.

What is the peak charging rate?

Each Kempower satellite can reach a maximum charging power of 320 kW.

What payment forms can be used at the chargers?

Will the chargers be available 24/7?

Each charging location will be available for public use 24/7. The sites are well lit and under video surveillance to ensure a safe and secure charging experience for customers. You can find each charging location via PlugShare, Google Maps, and EV Connect.

Will the chargers be covered by canopies?

The sites are not currently covered by canopies.

Are there restrooms and other amenities near the chargers?

The charging sites are strategically located in local shopping centers with restrooms, grocery stores, restaurants, and commonly used small businesses, allowing drivers to conveniently plug in and continue with their daily routines while charging.

How many charging ports are available at the Glen Oaks Shopping Center in Queens?

The electric vehicle (EV) station at Glen Oaks Shopping Center can charge eight vehicles at once with fast charging.

When will the chargers at Whitestone (Queens), Levittown, Elmont, and Commack be available?

The Whitestone (Queens), Levittown, and Elmont charging sites will be available within a few weeks. Commack is expected to be available Summer 2026.
