Xiaomi has revealed the full technical specifications of its Vision Gran Turismo electric hypercar concept at MWC Barcelona, and the details are genuinely impressive — including a magnetic wheel system that keeps wheel covers stationary while the car is moving.
The concept, which we first reported on last week when it leaked ahead of MWC, is now on full display at the show with a detailed spec sheet and some unique engineering solutions that go well beyond a typical concept car design exercise.
Full aero specs confirm a balancing act
Xiaomi’s official press release confirms the Vision GT achieves a drag coefficient of just 0.29 with a downforce figure of -1.2 and an aerodynamic efficiency rating of 4.1. For context, most electric hypercars prioritize either low drag for top speed or high downforce for cornering — Xiaomi says it focused on the balance between both.
The company’s design head, Tianyuan Li, explained the philosophy: the concept was designed so that every exterior element serves a dual aerodynamic and aesthetic purpose, with no add-on wings or spoilers needed. Li said it was built under a “less is more” approach where the body itself channels airflow.
From the side, the cockpit takes the shape of a teardrop, with every surface optimized for airflow and every structural member shaped with an airfoil cross-section. Air enters from the front, flows through sculpted body passages, and exits from the rear through massive outlets integrated into the halo-shaped taillight.
Magnetic non-rotating wheel covers are the standout detail
The most technically interesting detail is what Xiaomi calls “Accretion Rims.” These are vortex-shaped wheel covers that sit flush with the tire surface. Through semi-transparent covers, you can see turbine fins inside that actively pull air to cool the brakes.
The innovation is a magnetic system underneath: when the car is in motion, the wheel covers remain perfectly stationary while the wheels spin beneath them. That eliminates the aerodynamic drag caused by rotating wheel surfaces and creates a visual floating effect. It’s a clever solution that addresses a real aerodynamic problem — spinning wheels are a significant source of drag on any vehicle.
The rear of the car features what Xiaomi calls an “Active Wake Control System” — a matrix of micro-perforations surrounding the taillight that uses real-time speed and angle data to actively generate airflow, pushing turbulent air away from the vehicle’s rear. It essentially replaces a conventional active spoiler with an invisible system that preserves the clean surfaces.
“Sofa Racer” interior breaks from hypercar norms
Xiaomi ditched the traditional hypercar bucket seat approach for what it calls the “Sofa Racer” concept. The dashboard, door panels, and seats flow together as one continuous ring-shaped architecture forming a cocoon around the driver. The seating material uses 3D-knitted natural fabric borrowed from the sports fashion industry.
The cockpit includes Xiaomi Pulse, a 360-degree intelligent assistant built into the dashboard that reads the driver’s state and environment. It’s complemented by Xiaomi HyperVision, which adapts the display interface based on driving mode — minimal telemetry on track, immersive navigation on road trips.
Physical controls include an infinite-shaped steer-by-wire wheel and an aircraft-style throttle shifter — maintaining the tactile feel that matters in a performance car while integrating digital information.
Gran Turismo producer calls it “a role model for this era”
Kazunori Yamauchi, the legendary producer of the Gran Turismo series who personally drove a Xiaomi SU7 in June 2025, gave a strong endorsement of the concept. He specifically praised how Xiaomi resolved the tension between low drag and high downforce.
Xiaomi becomes the 36th brand and the creator of the 51st concept vehicle in the Vision Gran Turismo program’s history. That puts it in the company of Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW. Notably, it’s the first technology company to join the project — every previous participant has been a traditional automaker or design house.
The Vision GT won’t go into production — it’s a virtual concept that will eventually be drivable in Gran Turismo 7. But it’s a deliberate strategic move. Xiaomi confirmed 2027 as its first year of overseas expansion, with plans to enter Europe. The company already has an R&D center in Munich, is targeting 150 stores in the UK within four years, and aims for 10,000 Xiaomi Home stores globally within five years.
For a company that outsold the Tesla Model 3 in China in its first full year of deliveries and is targeting 550,000 sales in 2026, this is less about the concept car itself and more about building brand credibility with European consumers before the actual cars arrive.

The Vision GT is a concept car for a video game, so let’s not pretend it’s going to change the EV industry. But the engineering details Xiaomi revealed are worth paying attention to, particularly the magnetic stationary wheel covers and the active wake control system. These are the kinds of solutions that tend to filter down into production vehicles over time, and Xiaomi has demonstrated with the SU7 Ultra’s Nürburgring record that it’s not just building concepts, it’s shipping real performance cars.
The bigger story here is the European strategy. Xiaomi is doing exactly what the established automakers did decades ago, using motorsport credibility (even virtual motorsport) to build brand prestige before entering a market. Getting into the Vision Gran Turismo program puts Xiaomi’s name alongside Ferrari and Porsche in a context that millions of gamers will engage with directly. That’s smart marketing for a brand that most Europeans still associate with smartphones.
