There’s no place like The Sphere.
“The Wizard of Oz” is heading to Las Vegas for a run inside the city’s famed immersive venue, bringing the 1939 classic to life on a massive 160,000-square-foot LED screen. Tickets are currently available on resale sites such as Stubhub, Vivid Seats, Seatgeek and Ticketmaster, starting at $150.
The screenings, which kick off Aug. 28, mark the latest cinematic programming for the Sphere, following high-profile residencies from U2, Phish and the ongoing “Postcard from Earth” immersive film. But instead of rock bands or sci-fi, this time it’s ruby slippers, flying monkeys and the Emerald City that take center stage — all rendered with Sphere’s signature 16K resolution and spatial audio designed to fully envelop the audience.
“The Wizard of Oz” remains one of Hollywood’s most enduring films, and the Las Vegas venue’s cutting-edge technology offers a new way for audiences to experience its Technicolor magic. Judy Garland’s timeless turn as Dorothy, alongside Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, Margaret Hamilton and Frank Morgan, gets a 21st-century update as the film is projected at the Sphere’s grand scale.
“Our goal for The Sphere Experience is a diverse slate that leverages Sphere’s power as an experiential medium. ‘The Wizard of Oz at Sphere’ and ‘From the Edge’ will push that vision forward in different ways,” said Jim Dolan, executive chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment.
