Vilpa Films to Launch Short Film Streaming Service Vilpa Max

Do you love short films as an art form or as a way to discover emerging creative voices, or both? Do you want to watch select Oscar-nominated and Cannes Film Festival-featured shorts, among others? Vilpa Films, the production company established by Mexican producer, filmmaker, and author Alejandro Vilpa, is debuting a new destination for you.

The company is set to launch Vilpa Max, a streaming platform for short films, on Jan. 31. Its goal is to give “short filmmakers from around the world an opportunity to present their work to a global audience,” the company said.

Vilpa Max will first roll out in the U.K., North Africa, and the Middle East, before going to further territories later. Subscribers will have two options: a freemium business model, which will include advertising, and a paid subscription option, costing £4.99 ($6.68) in the U.K. and $3.99 in the Middle East and North Africa.

The films set to be featured on Vilpa Max at launch include Oscar-winning short The Mozart of Pickpockets from writer/director Philippe Pollet-Villard, the Oscar-nominated The Red Suitcase from director Cyrus Neshvad, and the Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or-winning All the Crows in the World from writer/director Yi Tang.

Other titles set to be featured include Poof from director Dean Anderson, and Love Is Blind from director Dan Hodgson, both of which were in the official selection at Cannes. Vilpa Max users will also be able to stream Bienvenidos a Los Ángeles from writer/director Lisa Cole, which was shortlisted for the 2024 Academy Awards, and Jimmy Keyrouz’s Nocturne in Black

“At Vilpa Films and Vilpa Max, our mission is to champion extraordinary cinema while creating a bridge for emerging filmmakers to enter the international distribution landscape,” said Alejandro Vilpa. “We curate and produce work that stands alongside Oscar-winning and Cannes-acclaimed films, offering audiences a catalogue defined by vision, craft, and cultural impact. At the same time, we empower new voices by giving them opportunities to gain international visibility and positioning as they continue building their careers.”
