Tyler Perry Firefighter Series ‘Where There’s Smoke’ Lands at Netflix

The ever-busy Tyler Perry has set a new firefighter drama, Tyler Perry’s Where There’s Smoke, at Netflix.

The Madea filmmaker has cast Tyler Lepley to play Owen, Mike Merrill in the role of Cameron, Da’Vinchi (BMF, All American) will play Noah and Eltony Williams will play Jermaine.

The 16-episode show will follow “the lives of a group of firefighters as they navigate the intense challenges of their high stakes profession while grappling with personal struggles, fractured relationships and the emotional toll of saving lives in a world filled with danger, drama and heartbreak,” according to a synopsis from the producers.

The series is being shot in Atlanta and will also star Brock O’Hurn, Joe Hunter, Karen Obilom, Brittany S. Hall, Mariah Goodie, Jordan Rodriguez and Judi Moon as Darcy. Where There’s Smoke comes from an ongoing creative partnership between Perry and Netflix where the prolific filmmaker writes, directs and produces feature films and TV series under a multi-year first-look deal.

Angi Bones and Tony Strickland are producing Where There’s Smoke for Tyler Perry Studios and follows other projects for Netflix like Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black, which was recently renewed for a third season.  Other projects with Netflix include Perry writing, directing and producing the World War II period film Six Triple Eight, starring Kerry Washington, and the legal drama Mea Culpa, fronted by Kelly Rowland.

Perry previously worked with Netflix on his period drama A Jazzman’s Blues, the thriller A Fall From Grace and A Madea Homecoming — the 12th installment in his Madea film franchise.
