Tiger Woods is weighing in on his recent arrest.
Following his March 27 car crash, after which he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and refusing to take a drug test, the Hall of Fame golfer spoke about the incident.
“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself today,” Tiger said in a March 31 statement released on X (formerly Twitter) after pleading not guilty to the charges. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment nd focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”
The 50-year-old added, “I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”
The two-vehicle collision occurred in Jupiter Island, Fla., after Woods attempted to overtake a pickup truck while driving his Land Rover at high speed on a two-lane road, according to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, who spoke to reporters shortly after the accident.
