Netflix has released the first trailer for the film adaptation of Richard Osman’s novel “The Thursday Murder Club,” directed by Chris Columbus.
According to an official synopsis, “The Thursday Murder Club” follows ex-spy Elizabeth (Mirren), ex-union activist Ron (Brosnan), ex-psychiatrist Ibrahim (Kingsley) and ex-nurse Joyce (Imrie), whose casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn when an unexpected death occurs on their doorstep.
“This is the finest cast I’ve worked with since Potter,” Columbus told Netflix. “They’re just so incredibly well-prepared, and it’s because they do everything. They do theater, they do television, they do film, and they’ve developed those sorts of muscles.”
The full cast of “The Thursday Murder Club” includes Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant and Ingrid Oliver.
Produced by Columbus and Jennifer Todd, the film is the latest feature to come out of Netflix’s partnership with Amblin Entertainment. “The Thursday Murder Club” is co-written by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote, with Osman executive producing alongside Jo Burn, Eleanor Columbus, Holly Bario and Jeb Brody.
Osman’s “Thursday Murder Club” book spawned a series with three sequels: “The Man Who Died Twice,” “The Bullet That Missed” and “The Last Devil to Die,” as well as the newest installment, “The Impossible Fortune” which will be released later this year.
“The Thursday Murder Club,” which was the bestselling book of the decade in the UK, follows a quartet of retirees who spend their time solving cold cases for fun.
“The Thursday Murder Club” will premiere on August 28 on Netflix.
