The Housemaid Author Freida McFadden on Movie vs. Book

Freida McFadden believes The Housemaid film is even better than she imagined.

Ahead of the film adaptation of her novel starring Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar hitting the big screen Dec. 19, the author teased that even the most fresh readers may be surprised by the shocking ending.

“They made some changes to the end,” Freida explained in an exclusive E! News interview at the film’s New York premiere. “I actually think it’s better. It’s more action, which I think works a lot better on the big screen.”

In case you need the TLDR on the novel, Sydney plays housemaid Millie Calloway, who begins working for the mysterious Nina Winchester and Andrew Winchester after getting out of prison. For most of the story, Nina is a nuisance in Millie’s life as she proves to be an overbearing boss, but it turns out there is something much more sinister brewing beneath the surface.

For Sydney, picking up the script for hard-to-read Millie was a no brainer.
