Studiocanal Buys Into Brock Media, the U.K. Producer of ‘The Outrun’


Studiocanal, the film and TV division of pay TV banner Canal + Group, has bought into Sarah Brocklehurst’s Brock Media, the London-based production company behind Nora Fingscheidt’s “The Outrun” starring Saoirse Ronan.

Besides “The Outrun” – which played at Sundance, Berlin, Edinburgh and Telluride, and was nominated for two BAFTAs — Brock Media has developed a slate of 18 series featuring stories across all genres since being launched three years ago.

Studiocanal previously collaborated with Brock Media on “The Outrun” which it distributed in theaters in multiple territories.

Now part of Studiocanal, Brock Media will continue developing a robust slate of film and TV series with Sophie Mitchell, Brock Media’s head of TV development, working closely with M-K Kennedy, Studiocanal’s managing director of television, and her team.

“We greatly admire Sarah’s passion for producing bold and often female driven stories such as which feel important and inspiring in addition to taking an innovative approach to creating IP,” said Anna Marsh, Studiocanal CEO and Canal+ deputy CEO, and M-K Kennedy, Studiocanal’s managing director, in a joint statement.

The pair said they’ll support “Brock Media’s slate, furthering Sarah Brocklehurst’s ambition to produce world-class films and TV series for U.K. and international audiences.” 

Brocklehurst said, “Having worked together on ‘The Outrun,’ I know that Studiocanal are the perfect partner for Brock Media as we embark on the next chapter” because they “share cultural alignment, passion for cinema and commitment to producing great stories for international audiences.”

“I’m looking forward to working with Anna Marsh, M-K Kennedy and their brilliant teams to generate many more successes across film and series in the years to come,” Brocklehurst continued.

Helion advised Brock Media on the deal whose terms were not disclosed by Studiocanal.

Brock Media joins a group of topnotch U.K. producers that are part of Studiocanal. While it shuttered Red Production Company, the U.K. production outfit behind “It’s a Sin” and “Happy Valley,” in June, Studiocanal is highly active in Britain where it owns Benedict Cumberbatch’s SunnyMarch, Urban Myth Films and Strong Film and Television.
