‘Stranger Things 5’ Vol. 2 Episode Runtimes and Finale, Revealed

Your Stranger Things Christmas binge now has a total runtime.

Ross Duffer, who created the Upside Down series with brother Matt Duffer, has revealed the final runtimes for the next batch of episodes in the final season of Stranger Things.

The three episodes that make up Stranger Things 5 Vol. 2 will run for just about three and a half hours total. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Episode 5 “Shock Jock”: 1hr 8min
  • Episode 6 “Escape From Camazotz”: 1hr 15min
  • Episode 7 “The Bridge”: 1hr 6min

Ross Duffer’s social media announcement on Monday also included a slight update to the series finale’s runtime. “Stranger Things: The Finale — The Rightside Up” will now run two hours and eight minutes, instead of the previously announced two hours and five minutes.

The co-creator had previously shared details about the Vol. 2 episodes, saying on Instagram:

  • “Shock Jock” picks up right after the Vol. 1 finale, “Sorcerer,” and that writer Frank Darabont has turned out something “far darker and far scarier” than his last Stranger Things episode, “Turnbow Trap.”
  • “Escape From Camazotz” sees Shawn Levy returning as director: “It’s the biggest episode of the three — and the performances make us cry every time we watch it.”
  • “The Bridge” is co-directed by Levy with the Duffer Brothers, and this one they didn’t want to share too much, but that “aside from the finale, it’s probably the most emotional chapter of the season.” Adding, “It’s gonna be a long six-day wait for the finale…”

The highly anticipated series finale of Netflix’s mega-hit series will simultaneously stream and play in 500 movie theaters across the country, starting on Dec. 31 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET — the same time the episode makes its global premiere on Netflix — and running through Jan. 1, 2026.

But first, Vol. 2 releases on Christmas Day. (Here’s how Vol. 1 ended when it released Nov. 26.)

The Duffer Brothers recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about how they planned their supersized endgame with these final episodes.

“At the end of the day, what people care about are the characters. Ross and I also love monsters and action. You do try to do both,” said Matt Duffer about balancing the sci-fi of the with the humanity of the beloved ensemble in the end. “The sweet spot for us, that I always reference, is the ‘Dear Billy’ episode, where you have two things climaxing at the same time. You’re having this visual effects spectacle reaching a crescendo at the same time that Max’s character is reaching an emotional crescendo. If you can have those two collide simultaneously, that’s the ultimate.”
