Ryan Coogler’s genre-bending historical horror epic Sinners haunted the box office, with one of the biggest openings for an original film since before the pandemic. And while Sinners is still playing in some theaters, you can now stream it at home on PVOD. It’s available to rent from Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and other online rental sites.
The movie is available to rent for $20 or to buy for $25, and the price is the same for 4K, HD, and SD streams. Rentals include 30 days to start watching and 48 hours to finish once started.
Where Will Sinners Be Streaming?
Sinners is currently available to rent or buy on PVOD, but a streaming release date has not been announced yet. Since it is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it will eventually land on the studio’s streaming service, HBO Max.
What Is Sinners About?
The film follows twin brothers, Smoke and Stack, both played by Michael B. Jordan. The twins return to the Mississippi Delta in the 1930s to open a juke joint using ill-gotten funds from their stint in Chicago’s Mobland, but strange, supernatural visitors threaten to unravel the revelry.
Sinners largely takes place in Smoke and Stack’s small venue, with the film’s hefty $90 – $100 million budget likely owed in part to Coogler’s choice of cameras. The director and cinematographer Autumn Durald shot the entire movie on film, including using IMAX cameras.
In addition to Jordan, the film features supporting performances from Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, and Jack O’Connell, and Coogler cast real-life musicians, including Miles Caton, Saul Williams, July Talk’s Peter Dreimanis, and blues legend Buddy Guy.
The film will also be released on Blu-ray on July 8, including a 4K Blu-ray. The collectible Steelbook, however, sold out quickly. Since the film was shot for IMAX, it’s worth seeing in the highest definition possible. It’s available from Walmart, Amazon, and Gruv.
Rolling Stone’s David Fear wrote, “Coogler is swinging wide and far beyond the boundaries of franchise fare. Having spent most of his career finding loopholes in the devil’s pact of Hollywood hit-making (which is to say, finding ways to assert himself during Marvel maintenance), he’s now dabbled in something personal: a genre-blending blast of blood, sex, and homespun Delta blues.”
