Simu Liu To Make Broadway Debut in ‘Oh, Mary!’


Simu Liu will make his Broadway debut in Oh, Mary! 

The star of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will play “Mary’s Teacher” in Cole Escola’s comedic play starting Feb. 3 for performances through April 21. Liu will play opposite John Cameron Mitchell as Mary Todd Lincoln. 

In addition to his Marvel credit, Liu has appeared in Barbie, in the television show Kim’s Convenience and The Copenhagen Test.

He joins current cast members John-Andrew Morrison (‘Mary’s Husband’), Jenn Harris (‘Mary’s Chaperone’), and Tony Macht (‘Mary’s Husband’s Assistant’), who will extend their runs through April 26. The role of Mary’s Teacher is currently played by Cheyenne Jackson and was previously played by Michael Urie and originated by James Scully.

Oh, Mary! opened at the Lyceum Theatre on July 11, 2025 and nabbed Tonys for Escola, who originated the role of Mary and won for best actor, as well as for director Sam Pinkleton. Since opening, the show has brought in several actors to play Mary, including Jane Krakowski, who is currently in the role until January, at which time Jinkx Monsoon will return to the role. The play has e broken its own box office record twelve times, and became the first show of the 2024-25 Broadway season to recoup its investment. 

Oh, Mary! is produced on Broadway by Kevin McCollum & Lucas McMahon and Mike Lavoie & Carlee Briglia.
