The UCLA Jonsson Cancer Foundation is finalizing the menu, er program, for its 29th annual Taste for a Cure, and the gala is shaping up to be an American Idol reunion of sorts.
Set to take place at Fox Studios in Los Angeles on May 1, Taste for a Cure will honor Paramount’s chair of TV media, George Cheeks, with the Gil Nickel Humanitarian Award. American Idol veteran Ryan Seacrest is confirmed to host the whole affair, which will feature a headline performance from none other than Idol winner turned superstar Carrie Underwood.
Cheeks, who will be presented with his honor by actress and current Matlock star Kathy Bates, joins a roster of previous honorees that includes Ravi Ahuja, Stephen A. Smith, Dana Walden, Eric Shanks, Gary Newman, Kevin Reilly, Jennifer Salke, Jay Sures, Joe Cohen, Paul Telegdy, Sandra Stern and Daymond John. Cheeks currently oversees Paramount’s broadcast, studios and cable TV businesses. He previously served as co-CEO of Paramount Global and president and CEO of CBS. A veteran in television for more than 30 years, the Yale and Harvard grad held senior roles at NBCUniversal and Viacom.
Taste for a Cure will feature samples from some of L.A.’s top restaurants and chefs like Petit Trois with chef Ludo Lefebvre, Top Chef winner Mei Lin, Kevin Meehan of Michelin-starred Kali, Govind Armstrong of the Lobster, Hinoki and the Bird, June Intrachat of Otus Thai Kitchen, Lawry’s, Enrique Ceja of the Beverly Wilshire and Kyle Nelson of Fox Studios. Far Niente, Bella Union, En Route and other fine wines from around the world will be served while raising funds for cancer research at the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center.
