Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, has been taken into custody in the UK amid controversy over his alleged ties to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
On Feb. 19, Andrew’s 66th birthday, Thames Valley Police confirmed that it has opened an investigation into the offence of misconduct in public office.
“As part of the investigation, we have today arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk,” officials shared in a statement. “The man remains in police custody at this time.”
“We will not be naming the arrested man, as per national guidance,” the Thames Valley Police continued. “Please also remember that this case is now active so care should be taken with any publication to avoid being in contempt of court.”
According to photos published by BBC, police are on the grounds of King Charles III‘s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, where Andrew had been staying.
