When David Ellison took over Paramount, one key question for film observers was what would happen with Star Trek? Would the studio move forward with a number of projects it had spent years developing, or set the warp drive for uncharted territory? Could the Chris Pine crew return? What about the Duffer Bros., who are decamping to Paramount from Netflix, rebooting the franchise?
We now have an answer to some of those questions, as the studio has tapped John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to write and direct a new Trek movie that is said to be unconnected from anything previously done in the franchise. (So, no Pine crew.)
The duo are known for balancing comedic chops with high concepts and action, such as their beloved hit Game Night and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which Paramount released.
The duo recently wrapped Mayday, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh.
Goldstein and Daley are repped by CAA, Fourth Wall Management, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.
Deadline first reported the news.
More to come.
