Mathew Lillard is hoping to go from Mystery Inc. to the Justice League.
In a recent appearance at Los Angeles Comic-Con (via ScreenRant), Lillard spoke about his interest in reuniting with director James Gunn on a potential DC project. The two previously collaborated on “Scooby-Doo” and “Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed,” where Gunn, now the co-head of DC Studios, served as the screenwriter. Lillard played Shaggy, one of the amateur detectives who leads alongside the titular talking dog.
“It’s been a long time. I have wanted to be in a superhero world,” Lillard said to the audience at Los Angeles Comic-Con. “I’ve wanted to be in [the DCU], if anyone’s curious. If you run into James Gunn, tell him I’m available.”
During the panel, Lillard spoke about his past experience working with Gunn. “[He’s] one of my dear friends,” said Lillard. “I keep waiting for that invitation. I don’t know if it’s lost in the mail.”
Previously, Gunn spoke about future DC projects and how he wants new faces to join the universe. He also acknowledged that past collaborators may join the franchise as time progresses.
“We have hundreds of roles to cast. As I’ve always done, some will be brand new faces, some will be actors I’ve worked with before, and some will be actors you know who I’ve never worked with,” Gunn wrote on X. “What matters most is the actor fits the role and they’re easy to work with.”
Lillard has been cast in the second season of “Daredevil: Born Again,” scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in March 2026.
