Mattel to Releases ‘Jaws’ and ‘Back to the Future’ Hot Wheels for SDCC

Jaws and Back to the Future are celebrating their 50th and 40th anniversaries, respectively, and to mark the occasion, Mattel Creations is unveiling a nostalgic Hot Wheels set inspired by the classic Universal Studios blockbusters.

The collectibles mark Mattel’s return to San Diego Comic-Con and will be available at the convention, which starts on July 24. The collection will also be available to buy online starting on the first day of the convention, exclusively at Mattel Creations’ website.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as to which vehicles Mattel picked for Back to the Future and Jaws, but the attention to detail makes them stand out. The Back to the Future set includes a die-cast DeLorean, as well as Doc Brown’s white van, which the DeLorean rolls into. The set comes in a diorama display box.

As for the Jaws set, it naturally includes the Orca boat and a shark (aka, Bruce) from the iconic “You’re gonna need a bigger boat” scene. Like the Back to the Future set, the toys are die-cast. The set comes in a display box featuring throwback 1970s lettering, with Bruce nipping at the boat’s stern. The Mattel and Universal Studios Nostalgic Film Favorites Hot Wheels collection will be available starting on July 24, with both sets retailing for $32.
