French kids content distributor Madgic Distribution (formerly APC Kids), has marked its debut at MipJunior with the sale of new animated series “Emerald” to Knowledge Canada, Mediacorp Singapore and Noga Israel.
Adapted from the hit book series by Harriet Muncaster, the 18 x 11′ series, which includes a 22’ special, is produced by U.K. independent Kelebek Media for Sky Kids U.K.
Aimed at children aged 4-7, it revolves around the titular Emerald, a mermaid, whose life takes a dramatic turn when her mother marries the Sun King, making her a princess. It follows her as she navigates a new life that is drastically different from her life with her father and his girlfriend above their restaurant.
Helping her deal with the challenges of a blended family that includes a princess step-sister, are Theodore the Sea Unicorn and Shelly the Sea Turtle who also provide comic relief.
“Emerald” is a companion series to Kelebek Media’s 2D animated series “Isadora Moon” (48 x 11’ + 2 x 22’), which is also based on the global publishing phenomenon created and written by Muncaster.
The source book series “Isadora Moon,” about a half-fairy, half-vampire girl who embraces her singular identity, has sold more than seven million copies worldwide in 42 different languages. Madgic Distribution holds worldwide distribution rights for the series, excluding the U.K., U.S. and Italy.
Said Lionel Marty, managing director and founder of Madgic Distribution: “Harriet Muncaster’s book series ‘Emerald’ is much loved by children around the world and we are excited that we have already sold the show to key broadcasters in Canada, Singapore and Israel. These deals have set the ball rolling on international sales and we look forward to bringing more partners on board during Mipcom.”
