Look for ‘Boring’ Stocks in a Rocky Market

Market volatility may be ebbing this week, but investors still need to be prepared for more turmoil. The trade war is on pause but it’s far from over and fears of a recession are rising.

That’s why Mike Rode, senior investment director with American Century Investments, thinks investors need to look for “boring” companies with stable earnings, steady dividends, and reasonable valuations.

“You want to look for high quality companies. The S&P 500 is still not cheap. And even if the U.S. reached a trade agreement with China soon, there probably would be some residual damage,” he said.
