KPMG selects Gary Wingrove as next global CEO – report

KPMG has selected Gary Wingrove as its next global chief executive, the Financial Times (FT) reported.

The ‘Big Four’ accounting group’s global board met in late February to evaluate potential candidates for the role. After an anonymous vote, the board recommended Wingrove, who currently serves as the company’s global chief operating officer (COO), sources told the FT.

Wingrove, who also served as CEO of KPMG’s Australia unit, reportedly beat UK chief Jon Holt in the race.

The appointment still requires formal approval from KPMG’s global council, a broader body comprising leaders of all member companies.

Current KPMG International CEO Bill Thomas’ term is scheduled to end on 30 September.

Holt, who was widely regarded as an early front-runner, is understood to have campaigned on a platform of change for the company.

He has led KPMG’s UK business for nearly five years. During his tenure, he guided the merger of KPMG’s UK and Swiss member entities.

Wingrove likewise presented his plans for steering KPMG through a rapidly evolving professional services landscape.

He has played a central role in shaping KPMG’s push to bring its national partnerships closer together and encourage consolidation among member companies since joining the global management team in January 2022.

Prior to that, Wingrove led KPMG in Australia for eight years from 2013 to 2021. Under his leadership in Australia, revenue, profits and headcount nearly doubled, the FT added, quoting a person familiar with his proposal.
