While Kate—mom to 12-year-old son Bear with husband Edward Abel Smith, as well as kids Mia, 25, and Joe, 22, from previous marriages—continued to deal with bullying in high school, she used the negativity as motivation.
“I learned to have a pretty thick skin fairly early on, to be honest,” she shared. “But at the time it was happening, I just threw myself into my theatre company and my creative world outside of school, so that the school mean people became as insignificant as I could possibly make them.”
As the Goodbye June director put it, “I wouldn’t let them spoil a trajectory that I was determined I was on.”
