Jill Biden’s Secret Service Agent Accidentally Shoots Himself While Escorting Former First Lady

A U.S. Secret Service agent assigned to protect former first lady Jill Biden accidentally shot himself in the leg.

The incident occurred at the Philadelphia International Airport around 8:30 a.m. March 27 after a “negligent discharge” of the agent’s gun, Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring told MS NOW in a statement.

Biden, 74, was not in the area at the time of the shooting.

While the agent was on-duty, initial reports said he was traveling in an unmarked Chevrolet SUV when the firearm was discharged, according to a Philadelphia Police Department statement obtained by MS NOW.

The agent was taken to the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition, per police.

Authorities said there was no disruption to either Biden’s schedule or to airport operation. No one else was injured in the incident.

Biden—who served as first lady during her husband Joe Biden‘s presidency from 2021 to 2025—was in New York March 26 to attend the opening of Public Charge, an off-Broadway play written by her former chief of staff Julissa Reynoso.
