Indian National Cine Academy Launches to Unite Diverse Film Industries

A new national cinematic institution aimed at unifying India’s diverse film industries across languages and regions was officially unveiled in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The Indian National Cine Academy (INCA) positions itself as a long-term platform designed to foster collaboration, knowledge-sharing, transparency and recognition across India’s regional cinema sectors. The initiative seeks to bring together filmmakers, producers and creative professionals from multiple language industries under one institutional framework.

The announcement drew attendance from prominent figures across Indian cinema, including Rohit Shetty and Aanand L. Rai, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Ahan Shetty, Dil Raju, Manoj Tiwari, Hans Raj Hans, Vipul Shah, Khushbu Sundar, Anand Gandhi, Srikant Mohta, Lakshmi Manchu, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Shibasish Sarkar and Subodh Bhave, representing various segments of the industry.

The Producers Guild of India has joined as chief patron of the initiative.

“INCA it is being built with intent, integrity, and purpose. Our goal is to create a permanent national institution that enables collaboration across industries, celebrates excellence fairly, and builds a universal talent database for Indian cinema,” said Vishnu Vardhan Induri, founder of INCA.

Shibasish Sarkar, president of the Producers Guild of India, added: “INCA represents an important step towards institutionalizing collaboration, credibility, and transparent processes in building an unified awards platform that celebrates all Indian languages equally and credibly. The Guild is pleased to support this initiative as chief patron.”

The inaugural INCA Awards ceremony is scheduled for March 9 in Mumbai, marking a significant milestone for the new national institution.

Beyond its awards component, INCA is structured as a broader ecosystem featuring an annual Cinema Conclave, a process-driven awards framework, and the development of a comprehensive database of actors, technicians and creative professionals across twelve Indian film industries. The database is intended to facilitate cross-regional collaboration and strengthen connections within India’s film ecosystem.
