Impossible’ Hold Strong at U.K. Box Office


Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” retained the top spot at the U.K. and Ireland box office for a third consecutive weekend, earning £3.5 million ($4.7 million) and pushing its cumulative total to £31.1 million ($42 million), according to numbers from Comscore.

Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” held steady in second place with $3.1 million, bringing its total to $29 million after three weekends in release.

The top new release of the frame was “From The World of John Wick: Ballerina,” from Lionsgate U.K.. The Ana de Armas-led spin-off danced its way to a strong $1.9 million debut, landing in third position. Close behind was Black Bear’s “The Salt Path,” which added $1.8 million in its sophomore frame for a robust $5.8 million total.

Sony’s “Karate Kid: Legends” took fifth place with $1.4 million, raising its running cume to $5.6 million. Warner Bros.’ “Final Destination: Bloodlines” followed at sixth with $835,902, now tallying $14.2 million to date.

“Peppa Meets The Baby Cinema Experience” from Trafalgar Releasing was seventh with $663,987, while Entertainment Film Distributors launched “Clown In A Cornfield” in eighth with $471,944.

Rounding out the chart, Universal’s “The Phoenician Scheme” added $392,612 in its third week for a cumulative haul of $3.4 million). Tenth place went to DJ Tech LTD’s “Thug Life,” opening with $347,306.

A varied slate of new titles is set to arrive in U.K. and Ireland cinemas this week, spanning studio fare, re-releases, and independent features.

Among the biggest releases is Universal’s “How To Train Your Dragon,” the live action remake of the beloved 2010 animated blockbuster. Lionsgate U.K. offers samurai action drama “Tornado,” while MetFilm Distribution brings “Lollipop,” a British social-realist drama from Daisy-May Hudson, starring Posy Sterling and Idil Ahmed, which opens across 100+ locations.

Icon Film Distribution has two films on the calendar. “Juliet & Romeo,” a pop musical retelling from director Timothy Scott Bogart, stars Rebel Wilson, Jason Isaacs, Clara Rugaard, and Rupert Everett, and debuts Wednesday. Later in the week, Icon also rolls out rom-com “Jane Austen Wrecked My Life,” directed by Laura Piani and starring Camille Rutherford and Pablo Pauly.

On the Indian cinema front, Dreamz Entertainment releases Telugu-language Pawan Kalyan-starrer “Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1,” while Zee Studios International brings “Daakuaan Da Munda 3” to U.K. Punjabi-speaking audiences.

Other notable titles include the documentary “Love & Rage: Munroe Bergdorf,” distributed by Cinematik and opening in 25+ locations from Tuesday, and Central City Media’s Golden Horse-winning “The Way We Talk,” a Hong Kong drama from director Adam Wong, also playing across 25+ sites.

Rounding out the week are Bulldog Film Distribution’s crime-horror “Protein,” the rerelease of Pat O’Connor’s “Cal” via Park Circus, and the Oasis documentary “Supersonic” from Lionsgate U.K.
