“The Beauty,” a new FX thriller created by Ryan Murphy, premiered on Hulu last night at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
The first three episodes were available to watch upon premiering, with the remaining eight episodes set to stream weekly on Wednesdays. Adapted to television from Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley’s comic of the same name, the body horror show is about a sexually transmitted virus that begins as an injectable drug, elevating people’s physical appearances but resulting in lethal consequences.
Co-created by Matt Hodgson, “The Beauty” stars Evan Peters (“American Horror Story”) and Rebecca Hall (“The Town”) as FBI agents Cooper Madsen and Jordan Bennett, determined to uncover the root of the disease. Ashton Kutcher (“The Ranch”) also stars as a tech billionaire tied to the mysterious drug, joined by Anthony Ramos (“Hamilton”) and Jeremy Pope (“Hollywood”).
The show features guest appearances by Bella Hadid, Ben Platt, Amelia Gray, Isabella Rossellini, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Jessica Alexander, among others.
In an interview with Variety in 2024, Murphy said the series is a nod to contemporary “Ozempic culture.”. “One little shot, and suddenly you’re going to look better and feel better, and all your problems are going to go away,” he said. “But what are you really working on? What’s going on with you that you feel you need to do that? Sometimes it is health, sometimes it’s vanity.”
Murphy is known for his work in television, including “Glee” and “American Horror Story,” as well as film adaptations of “Eat, Pray, Love” and “The Normal Heart.” Peters previously collaborated with Murphy on “American Horror Story” and “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.”
“The Beauty” is executive produced by Murphy, Hodgson, Peters, Ramos, Pope, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Michael Uppendahl, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Gitter, Peter Schwerin, and Jeremy Haun, who also serves as a consultant.
