Naturally, after the $7,500 tax credit for new electric vehicles was ended on September 30, there was going to be a significant drop-off in sales for a little while. Let’s have a look and see how much the sector has been hit, getting a peek into the market by looking at the sales numbers of some brands that report monthly sales. Overall, I assume October results will be horrid, but I’m curious how November looks. Let’s see….
Kia
The Kia EV6 had 1,732 sales in October 2024, and only 508 in October 2025. So, yeah, a massive fall-off.
Similarly, the EV9 had 1,941 sales in October 2024, and only 666 in October 2025.
Unfortunately, November wasn’t much better for Kia. The EV6 had 603 sales, compared to 1,887 in November 2025; and the EV9 had 918, down from 2,115 in November 2024.
Kia actually didn’t even have a big surge in EV sales in the 3rd quarter, disappointingly, so these results are even worse in that context. Across the first 11 months of the year, the EV6 dropped from 19,604 to 12,188 sales; and the EV9 dropped from 20,066 to 14,032 sales. Kia is not hitting the electric ball out of the park … and I am especially surprised and disappointed by that since the EV6 is on the top of my list for a new EV.
Hyundai
How about Kia’s sibling Hyundai?
In October, the IONIQ 5’s sales dropped from 4,498 to 1,642 year over year, while the IONIQ 6’s sales dropped from 837 to 398 year over year.
In November, the IONIQ 5’s sales dropped from 4,989 to 2,027 year over year, while the IONIQ 6’s sales dropped from 1,121 to 489 year over year.
Note that the IONIQ 9 was not on sale a year ago, but 317 were delivered in October and 315 were in November.
Honda & Acura
The Honda Prologue dropped from 4,130 in October 2024 to 806 in October 2025. Ouch. In November, it dropped from 6,823 to 903 sales year over year. Triple ouch!!
If you thought that was bad…
The Acura ZDX dropped from 1,212 in October 2024 to 25 in October 2025. Ouch. It dropped from 1,317 sales in November 2024 to 22 in November 2025. Wowza!
Overall
That’s just a handful of brands. So far, though, things aren’t look good in the 4th quarter so far. Do these auto brands have an end-of-the-year rush in them? How about other brands?
Also recall that there was a rush to buy EVs at the end of 2024, as people weren’t sure exactly how long it would take Republicans (newly controlling both Congress and the White House) to kill off EV subsidies.
