Head of UK Budget Watchdog Resigns After Reeves’ Budget Leaked

The head of the UK’s Office for Budget Responsibility resigned on Monday after the fiscal watchdog accidentally leaked the contents of Rachel Reeves’ crucial budget just before the chancellor was due to unveil her plans in front of Parliament.

Richard Hughes, chair of the OBR, said in a letter that he will leave his post early after the watchdog’s budget analysis went live on its website too soon, in an unprecedented breach of procedure. An inquiry into the incident reporting Monday called it the “worst failure in the 15-year history of the OBR.”
