Green Day rocked the Super Bowl LX opening ceremony on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
Green Day opened their set with an instrumental of “Good Riddance” before rocking right into “Holiday.” The Bay Area punks then slowed it down with “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” and then cranked it right back to 11 with “American Idiot.” Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong then took the mic and screamed, “Welcome to the Bay! It’s Super Bowl LX!”
While Green Day skipped the politics during Sunday’s performance, Armstrong shared a poignant message with ICE at a Spotify-sponsored Super Bowl party Friday night. He told federal agents to quit their “shitty-ass” jobs because the Trump administration will inevitably throw them under the bus.
“To all the ICE agents out there, wherever you are,” said Armstrong from the stage, “quit your shitty-ass job. Quit that shitty job you have. Because when this is over — and it will be over at some point in time — Kristi Noem, Stephen Miller, JD Vance, Donald Trump, they’re gonna drop you like a bad fucking habit. Come on this side of the line.”
The rock band was formed in the East Bay of San Francisco and consists of lead singer and guitarist Armstrong, bassist and backing vocalist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool. They have won five Grammy Awards, sold approximately 75 million records globally and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
Charlie Puth, Brandi Carlile and Coco Jones are also set to perform as pregame entertainment for the big game. Puth will perform the national anthem, Carlile will sing “America the Beautiful” and Jones will deliver “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show will be performed by pop superstar Bad Bunny, who recently took home the 2026 Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
The 60th Super Bowl takes place Feb. 8, with the game starting at 6:30 p.m. ET. This marks Levi Stadium’s second Super Bowl, last hosting the football showdown in 2016.
The New England Patriots will play against the Seattle Seahawks, reviving their 2015 Super Bowl face-off in Arizona, where the Patriots defeated the Seahawks 28-24.
