Unsurprisingly, given what we’ve seen from the company in recent months, Ford’s EV business took a big hit in the first quarter year over year in the United States.
The company’s best selling electric vehicle, the Mustang Mach-E, is still a great buy — but it’s harder getting consumers to see that without the $7,500 tax credit to entice them. With 4,600 sales in the first quarter, it had 60.4% fewer sales than last year in the same time period (11,607 sales). That’s not an exciting trend, especially when the company sold 12,397 Escapes, 31,197 Broncos, 61,387 Explorers, and even 17,554 Expeditions. (Seriously, what’s wrong with new-vehicle buyers?…).
The F-150 Lightning, which is being discontinued, reached 2,060 deliveries in the first quarter of 2026, down 71.3% from the 7,187 deliveries of the first quarter of 2025. That’s compared to 159,901 F-Series trucks overall. Is it any wonder that Ford is dropping the Lightning model?…
Then there’s the Ford E-Transit. With just 200 sales (yikes), the E-Transit scored a 94.7% drop in sales compared to the 3,756 it achieved in Q1 2025. That’s despite 34,248 overall Transit sales. WTF happened?
There’s absolutely nothing positive about Ford’s EV business in the first quarter. It was a disaster. Overall, deliveries dropped 69.6% from 22,550 in 2025 to 6,860 in 2026. Who deserves the most blame for this — consumers, Ford dealers, or Ford itself? I don’t know, but it’s hard to think of a way to remedy the situation at this point.
