Eminem Wanted Mariah Carey to Play His Mother in 8 Mile

Eminem wanted Mariah Carey to join him in the 313.

Indeed, the rapper had initially hoped the “Obsessed” singer would play his mother in his 2002 movie 8 Mile, according to music producer Damizza Young, who revealed why he was hesitant to share the news with Mariah at the time.

“’If I don’t say something and then it comes another route in the business or something,” Damizza, who was managing Mariah at the time, revealed on the TFU podcast June 4. “Then I’m the bad guy.’”

But while Mariah wasn’t initially interested in chatting with Eminem, the producer recalled, she changed her mind and agreed to take the call after learning it was about a possible movie role. The enthusiasm was short-lived, though, when the “Lose Yourself” artist shared details about the role during their conversation.  

“I want you to play my mother,” Damizza recalled Eminem, 52, telling Mariah, 56, before revealing her reaction. “She did not like that s–t at all. Her insecurities kicked in big time.”
