Barely four days after the death of a Delhi man after falling in an uncovered pit in the Janakpuri area, another youth met the same fate and died after falling into an open drain in Rohini area of the national capital on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old man died he fell into an open drain in Rohini’s Sector 32 area, near Mahashakti Kali Temple, reported news agency ANI. A rescue operation was underway after the man had fallen into the drain.
The incident was reported from the Begumpur police station area.
An official said the call regarding the incident was received at around 7.45 pm, after which the rescue team rushed to the spot, according to a PTI report.
What witnesses said
A man from the spot, Sunil Kumar, said that the victim was identified as Birju Kumar and originally hailed from Bihar’s Samastipur.
“The man is Birju Kumar. He originally hailed from Samastipur, Bihar…He had fallen into the open drain at night…We informed the Administration, and they came here and took away the body,” Kumar told ANI.
Another man who claimed that he dialled 112 and informed the police about the incident alleged timely inaction by authorities. “I had come to know that a man had fallen into a pit. But the Police had not intimated to any department. After I came here, I dialled 112. Following this, the entire department came here. But when I came here, there were several officials here. The man had been lying in the pit since yesterday, his friends informed the Police Administration at 4 pm today about it. But they came here only after my call and sprang into action…” Tejpal Yadav told ANI.
Delhi biker’s death
On Friday last week, a 25-year-old man working with a private bank died after allegedly falling into a pit dug by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Joginder Singh Marg in west Delhi’s Janakpuri while riding his motorcycle late Thursday night, police said.
The deceased person’s body and his motorcycle were found in the 20-foot-deep pit, the police said, adding that a case under the relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 has been registered.
