CJ 4DPlex Americas Appoints Paul H. Kim as COO

CJ 4DPlex, the Korean cinematic technology company behind ScreenX and 4DX premium large format auditoriums, has appointed Paul H. Kim as chief operating officer (COO) of its branch in the Americas. Kim’s promotion comes after serving as senior vice president of content and production at the company.

Based in Los Angeles, Kim will oversee growth for CJ’s theatrical technology: ScreenX, which uses multiple screens to create an expanded 270-degree view during movies; and 4DX, which features seats that rock, rattle and roll along with smoke, water and other effects. Kim will also manage relationships with Hollywood studios and talent. In his previous position, he increased the annual programming of ScreenX to 26 Hollywood releases and negotiated long-term agreements with studios. He has also overseen the growth of CJ 4DPlex’s in-house visual effects capabilities.

“I am honored to take on this new role at CJ 4DPlex, Americas and continue driving the company’s vision of redefining the cinematic experience,” Kim said in a statement. “With the growing demand for premium formats, I look forward to working more closely with our studio partners, creative teams and exhibitors to bring audiences even more unforgettable moviegoing experiences.”

“Paul’s deep understanding of production, technology and operations, along with his long-standing commitment to CJ 4DPlex, uniquely qualifies him for this position,” said Don Savant, CEO of CJ 4DPlex, Americas. “Throughout his extensive tenure with the company, Paul has been vital in shaping our premium formats and enhancing our presence and relationships in Hollywood. His dedication and leadership will be essential as we continue to grow and innovate in the cinematic space.”

In 2011, Kim joined parent company CJ Group, whose assets also include theater chain CJ CGV, the fifth-largest in the world, as well as film and television producer CJ Entertainment & Media. Kim helped develop ScreenX in 2012, overseeing the format from its conceptual stage to commercialization. There are more than 435 ScreenX locations worldwide, along with over 775 4DX auditoriums.
