Alongside our report on BYD’s passenger vehicle sales, let’s also take a look at the more stunning growth coming from the company’s commercial vehicle divisions.
In July, BYD’s fully electric bus sales rose 128.5% year over year. Its bus sales rose a more modest 24.7% across January–July. So, we’ll have to wait to see if such high growth as we saw in July becomes the norm, or of it was an outlier months and sales growth will be more modest (but still strong) in coming months again.
In volume terms, the company’s bus sales rose from 267 in July 2024 to 610 in July 2025. Going back to July 2023, the company sold 280 electric buses back then.
Looking at non-bus commercial vehicles, they rose from 776 in July 2023 to 1,317 in July 2024 to 2,656 in July 2025. That’s 101.7% growth year over year in July. Even more impressive, the growth was 552.6% from January–July 2025 compared to January–July 2024 — 552.6%.
Overall, BYD’s plugin commercial vehicle sales are a clear EV success story in 2025. The July numbers are good, but they are down a bit compared to wild expectations we get if we look at the previous months’ sales.
