Korean sales agent Finecut has acquired international rights to three films — “The Mutation,” “Time of Cinema” and “Wrangler” — and is presenting two additional titles at the Busan International Film Festival.
Director Shin Su-won’s “The Mutation” is a road drama about a Korean man born Black and a lesbian woman who embark on a journey together, finding belonging through shared experiences. Shin Su-won previously directed “Madonna,” which played in Un Certain Regard at Cannes, and “Pluto,” which received recognition at Berlin. The film will screen in Busan’s Vision section.
Anthology film “Time of Cinema” examines moviemaking and moviegoing through two segments. Lee Jong-pil (“Escape,” “Samjin Company English Class”) contributes “Chimpanzee,” while Yoon Ga-eun (“The World of Us,” “The World of Love”) presents “Naturally.” The film will play in Busan’s Panorama section, presented by arthouse distributor Tcast.
Finecut will also present action-comedy “Boss” from Hive Media Corp at Busan’s Asian Contents & Film Market. The company behind “12.12: The Day” has the title in Busan’s Special Premiere section. Drama “Journey There,” starring Kim Hye-ok and Justin H. Min (“Beef”), follows an elderly widow finding comfort in strangers while facing end-of-life decisions. The film plays in Busan’s Vision section.

The company has also boarded psychological thriller “Wrangler,” which follows a dog trainer whose controlled life deteriorates when disturbing impulses surface. The feature debut from director Seo Eun-sun stars Choi Seung-yoon (“Rice Boy Sleeps”) and Kim Seung-hwa (“Seoul Busters”). The Korean Academy of Film Arts production opened the Spotlight on Korea section at Vancouver International Film Festival.
